Tanya Dentham: Blog #4

Current Events:

Remembering Steve Jobs

October 5 marks the 2 years since Steve Jobs passed away. Steve Jobs was known as the mastermind behind the iPhone, iPad, iPod and Macs. He died at the age of 56 after battling a form of pancreatic cancer and having a liver transplant. While there are critics and skepticism on whether Apple will be able to continue its innovative streak, Apple still is able to thrive on the products that Jobs created – a major success was the recent iPhone launch.

I think we’ll have to look out for the future products that Apple will be coming out with. There are rumors that they have been working on a television set and a smart watch. Clearly, Steve Jobs’ legacy lives on.

On a lighter note, I found these pictures online. I thought they were kind of funny.

TTIY Project Update
Blog: With Fall season around the corner, Bath & Bodyworks has been updating their customers via blog about the “theme” of their products. They focus mainly on the color changes of the leaves, the pumpkin carving and flannel sheets. These aspects can be seen in their fall product collections.

Email: Bath & Bodyworks has been very active on their email subscription services. I have received emails about their current product lines and their promotional offerings.
Online Promotions: It seems like B&BW would want their customers to shop online because they sent me emails regarding their discounts and free shipping at a minimum purchase – only available online.
YouTube: While the B&BW’s YouTube page has been quite idle, they seem to continuously get non-affiliated product reviews with YouTube beauty gurus and bloggers. Most of the reviews are positive where they talk about the products they enjoy and used up. I would say that these individuals are considered ‘influencers’, partly because they have been around on YouTube for a while and have established some credibility. I can honestly say that a lot of their reviews are personal, but I find myself gravitating more towards the products that they talk about. For example, a beauty guru talked about her favorite B&BW products including candles and lotions, making me go out to try the products on my own. As a result, I ended up buying the products because they did live up to the raving reviews. I think that this is a great way for the brand to get its exposure. These beauty gurus and bloggers have their own channels and followers – many of which who have been on the social media world for a long time. Therefore, the more followers these influencers have, the higher the exposure.
Pinterest: B&BW has 12 Boards and 855 pins in total. They have quite a lot of followers at 29,474. This week B&BW has a contest on their Pinterest page for users to REPIN their NEW Pure Paradise for a chance to WIN their new paradise products. This is a great way to engage with the audience and give away products.

Store Visit: I visited the B&BW’s store between 44th St & 45th St Lexington Avenue. The store was not that big but it carried a bunch of products. In front, they had a clear promotion stand that tells people the product deals within the store. The store display was very colorful and definitely gave me a feel of the “fall” season coming around. Each product stand had clear communications in terms of the promotions and the current product line. At the check out, the lady told me that if I had given them my phone number and email, I could get updates and even discount coupons! Who does not love a good deal on products? Especially on something that smells great!

It would definitely be interesting to see what other news and updates they would have in the upcoming weeks!
