An article on
Adweek spoke about word-of-mouth as “the hot new trend.” I found this to be a
bit funny because I feel like word of mouth is one of the oldest trends and
advertising methods! The article expands on this topic and says that live
experiences are particularly helpful in getting people to recommend a brand.
Momentum Worldwide conducted a study with the key takeaway: “Attending a
branded live experience drives 65 percent of people to recommend the brand and
59 percent to buy it at retail afterwards.” Brands such a Red Bull that hosts
events to build buzz and brand awareness utilize this tactic to increase sales
of their products. These sorts of events create a bubble in which people
generally enjoy themselves and want to share aspects of their enjoyment with
those around them, or even with those not with them. The methods of sharing
these thoughts have grown exponentially, and are now instantaneous, creating
that sought after buzz.

I came across
this article and thought it showed an interesting method of advertisement for
BB compared to what I have found so far. This image shows a woman’s face that
appears “dry and flaky” because of the appearance of the vouchers adhered to
the wall. These coupons can be removed by passer buyers and once all of them
are removed, reveals the smooth skin achievable by using BB products. This
interactive billboard was used to promote the Intense Hydration line that débuted
in 2012. There was also a video posted that showed a time lapse of the
billboard through the course of the day, which led viewers to the BB Facebook
back to get a coupon for the product.
On the BB website, I spotted some new additions. There is a 99 cent and above section that offers users to "Try Natural and Take it Wherever You Go." This section includes
mini versions of many products that are now in airplane friendly sizes. Additionally, there is a new picture promoting Burt's Bees cough soothing drops, right in time for the winter. It is nice to see BB branch out from skin care and beauty products, and recognize the other powerful uses for honey.
